At Power Wheelchair Services, Inc. we strive to provide our customers the best service. To help accomplish this we will be providing Power Mobility Maintenance tips so that you may keep your power mobility device in top working order.
Thermal Rollback is when a power wheelchair overheats. In order to prevent damage to the motors and controller the power wheelchair will shut down. Most chairs will turn back on when this happens however they will only remain on for a few minutes. This is to allow you to move to safety.
If you experience Thermal Rollback please first move to safety. Once you are safe you may need to put your power wheelchair into freewheel mode in order to get it back home (please check back next week for our article entitled "Freewheel Mode").
The controller of your power wheelchair will need to reset. You will need to charge your power wheelchair it is very important that you leave your power wheelchair on while charging it so that the controller can reset. If off the controller is unable to reset and when you do turn the power wheelchair on the controller will begin the process to reset and could stop suddenly.
It is best to leave your power wheelchair on when charging to avoid thermal rollback and to allow your controller to reset as needed.
